National Institute of Technology Hamirpur is one of the thirty NITs of the country, established in 1986 as Regional Engineering College, as a joint and cooperative enterprise of the Govt. of India and Govt. of Himachal Pradesh. The goals of the institute and are remarkable in their scope of vision. The college provide Undergraduate, Postgraduate and Doctorate Education in Architecture, Planning, Engineering, Sciences & Humanities; fostering the spirit of national integration among the students, a close interaction with industry and a strong emphasis on research, both basic and applied.
The department of Architecture is one of the young Departments at the National Institute of Technology Hamirpur, and has been established in the year 2000. Presently, the department offers a five-year undergraduate course that includes one semester training, a two year M.Arch. (Sustainable Architecture) and PhD programme. The Department has been imparting Quality education to the students and reviews its curricula from time to time, modernizing its laboratories with state of the art equipment and latest software. The classrooms are well equipped with all modern electronic audio-visual facilities. The department has a cognitive work environment where innovation is encouraged. Student teacher interaction levels are very high, to the extent that each teacher knows the strengths of each of his students.
